About Apple Blossom Cavaliers

Our Family

We are Hans & Rachel Strahm, who, along with our five children, live on a dairy farm in NE Kansas. We raise Cavaliers King Charles Spaniel puppies with the desire that they will be a wonderful addition to your family!

Our family loves animals of all kinds and being out in God's creation. We believe we are to be good stewards of what He has intrusted to us and strive towards taking care of His land and creatures to HIs glory.

We have fallen in love with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed and hope you will too! Our dogs are our pets, and love running around the backyard with our children, or curled up next to us on the sofa.

We all spend time with our dogs, from playing with them, to giving baths and combing their beautiful long fur, to feeding them and making sure their water bowls are clean, their blankets washed, or just taking time to sit and snuggle them on our laps (my favorite).

Our Breeding Philosophy

At Apple Blossom Cavaliers, we are dedicated to raising healthy and happy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Our passion drives us to ensure that each puppy is raised with love and care, ensuring they become wonderful companions. We believe in responsible breeding practices that prioritize the health and well-being of our dogs. Our goal is to produce happy, well-socialized puppies that embody the best traits of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. Genetics, temperament and looks are all important to us. Our parent dogs are AKC registered and Embark genetic tested.

We strive to make sure our puppies are well acclimated so that when you take them home, they will fit right in. They are used to lots of household and farm noise, children, and other animals.

About the Cavalier Breed

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for their mild temperament and easy going personalities. They make great family pets as they do wonderful with children and other dogs. Cavaliers are highly affectionate, playful and extremely social.

Their breed goes back to the 16 century, where they were companions to British and English Royalties. Used for both hunting, and lapdogs, they were a favorite among the whole family.

Cavaliers are the largest of the toy breeds, with breed standard being anywhere from 12-18 pounds. The breed has four recognized colors:

Blenheim: rich chestnut markings on a pearly white background, with a Blenheim spot on top of it's head

Tricolor: black and white, with tan markings on the cheeks, underside of ears, eyebrows, inside of legs and underside of tail

Black and tan: black bodies with tan highlights, particularly eyebrows, cheeks, legs and beneath the tail

Ruby: solid chestnut color

The Cavalier's coat is moderately long and silky, with some gentle wave. Feathering on their ears, tails, legs, and paws is to remain long. Their heads are to be more flat on top than domed, and their ears placed high.

Average lifespan of a Cavalier is 8-12 years. Like any breed, they have their genetic conditions, the highest risk of which is Mitro Valve Disease, a heart condition. It is best to have their hearts listened to at least once a year. If caught early enough, MVD can be helped with medication and lifestyle.

Some other issues known to affect Cavaliers are, Dry Eye Curly Coat (DECC), an eye/coat condition, Episode Falling (EF) a neurological disorder affecting the muscles, Muscular Dystrophy (MD), a muscular disorder.

Other than MVD, these can be tested genetically.
